Recently, I read a copy of Nexus Magazine, which originates from Australia and has some very interesting articles. I happen to subscribe to this magazine, as it is bi-monthly and I cannot afford much more.
There is a website but you usually have to pay/subscribe to it to get some of the latest articles. But there are some older articles which they do allow you to see.
In the most recent edition, there was an article about the The Codex Alimentarius. I admit I have never heard of this so just learning that such a thing existed was interesting in itself.
This is the global standards for food which practically all countries adhere to. There are several sites regarding this topic, but none give the slant that this article does.
The article claims that the big pharmaceutical companies are using these standards to change the perception of food in the mind of governments/business/customers alike. Up to now I have been unable to verify the author's claims, but I don't dismiss just because no-one has confirmed the ideas.
The author suggests that in future vitamens and minerals will be deemed "toxic" to the human body! That certain other ingredients which have been considered toxic in the past will be reintroduced and accepted instead.
Like it or not, there could be some sort of truth in this, although it could equally just be misinformation.
I am relating to the way certain ingredients in food have been slowly removed from our diet, under the auspices that there is too much in the processed foods in our diet which is dangerous. Whilst this can also be true, I feel that someone somewhere has been messing about with the truth somewhat.
There was an article in a paper recently whereby a woman journalist admitted that she had unwittingly been denying her children food which they needed. Salt and Fat have become untouchable ingredients in some people's minds, and she had removed ALL salt and fat from her children's diet. It may be possible for some adults to limit this intake substantially but growing children need these things, and apparently she realised when she saw her children grabbing blocks of fat from the supermarket shelves and trying to eat them, and also grabbing handfuls of salt from a cafe table and swallowing them. She decided to do more research and realised she had been unknowlingly depriving her children of vital ingredients for their well being and growth. She now has returned these things, modestly, into their diet and they are now feeling a lot better. I think this story shows how easy it is to be manipulated and brainwashed into believing some things.
I know that processed food is not as good as it used to be. In the UK unpasteurised milk is impossible to buy, yet it is said to be helpful towards relieving the symptoms of asthma and other health problems. Once milk is pasteurised it loses much of its goodness.
Whether the idea that the Nexus article's author holds is right or wrong, we should always be aware that such a thing is possible, and if you wanted to rid a large number of people from this planet just remove many of the ingredients from food/drink that are vital to a human's health and substitute them with toxic chemicals that kill. The question is, are the big pharmaceuticals capable and willing to do such a thing? I leave you to work out the answer.

I don't think so
Last week I provided a link to this video in my News briefs.
From what I seem to understand, this whole Codex Alimentarius phenomenon seems to stem from a geniune concern over the powers of Big Pharma companies, but maybe taken a bit too extremely.
Personally, I don't think Big Pharma has the power to forbid the sale of natural diet complements like minerals and vitamins; there would be protests all over, or people would simply rely on black market options. For example, despite all the bad rap that Cocaine has in the world, that hasn't stopped all the quechua indians living in Perú and Bolivia from cultivating and consuming Coca leaves; they simply raise their collective middle finger to the USA and the DEA and keep on chewing their leaves the way their ancestors have done it for thousands of years —in fact, that's one of the reasons Evo Morales managed to become President of Bolivia.
Yes, I agree there can be some manipulation on the way we perceive certain foods as harmful or healthy; this is particularly true with the new low-fat products available in the market.
But you can't blame the food companies for the ignorance of common people. That lady who was depriving her children from salt and fat was clearly misguided and was confusing transfats (which have been shown to be almost toxic) with normal natural fats. She should have stopped taking the kiddies to McDonalds and start giving them more salads with olive oil and almonds instead!

It's really happening RPJ

It's happened in Canada, the first stage of passing a controversial Bill was passed earlier this year banning natural products, remedies... if you have more than the allowed amount of garlic, for example, you can be charged, fined and even jailed. Stores selling health products, vitamins and minerals, will be closed down. Authorities say it's to stamp out misleading health products that aren't scientifically proven -- that's great, but in reality it's to give Big Pharma the monopoly on profit. This is really happening. Be worried.
However, I'm not sure if this is part of Codex Alimentarius (it's been a while since I last read up on it or saw Dr Laibow talk, plus I just woke up and my meds haven't kicked in yet). I haven't read the Nexus article so I don't know how much they've embellished the Codex or other sources they use, but Dr Rima Laibow is right on the money with the Codex. She's solid and can be trusted in my opinion.
And just last week, I was talking to my local GP how Big Pharma always try to buy him out to get him to spruik their products -- he refuses. I'd really like an expensive placebo right now though.
That explains it:
Government in Canada is ruled by vampires! ;-)
I think the governments should try to regulate "snake oil" products that are supposed to be good for you but can be harmful, even if they're natural. I hate it that in Mexico there's this Pharma company called 'Genoma Labs' selling all kinds of medicines that take your pimples out, your dandruff and even helps you with your libido problems, but all they sell seem pretty phony.
Then again, many companies deal with that problem with the label "you take this under your own risk" or something like that. They put that on Red Bull!
So, I'm not saying there is not a plan to enforce the Codex Alimentarius, I'm just saying I honestly don't see that happening any time soon. At least here in Mexico and Latin America anyway. If the government can't control a bunch of lazy ignoramus teachers (long story) I really can't see them forbidding folks from buying natural remedies for their maladies and getting away with it.

vitamins and minerals
Some vitamins and minerals, in the wrong dosage, are toxic.

It is not how fast you go
it is when you get there.
Yes!
And people have the bad habit of mixing natural herbal remedies with normal medicines, without consulting their doctors.

Thanks for the comments
I agree that you have to be careful when dealing with herbal medicines and pharma medicines.
Nevertheless, what I am worried about is that the big pharmas manage to persuade the manufacturers of food, in all their guises, that ordinary natural vitamins and minerals are too toxic for us!
The fact the industrial flouride (nothing to do with the natural flouride) has been encouraged to go into our tap water, and that this is toxic, is something that has already happened so we need to be aware that such things can happen, as they already have in this instance!
